Psychological Syndromes

Psychological disorders, also known as mental illnesses or mental health conditions, can affect your thoughts, emotions, and behavior, often impacting relationships and daily functioning. These conditions can be either temporary or long-lasting.

The term "psychological disorders" is often used interchangeably with "mental disorders" or "psychiatric disorders." These disorders involve patterns of behavior or psychological symptoms that interfere with various aspects of life, creating distress for the individual experiencing them.

Perspectives on Psychological Disorders:

  • Societal Perspective: Behavior is considered abnormal if it deviates from the established social norms.
  • Individual Perspective: Normality is defined by an individual’s own sense of well-being.
  • Mental Health Professional Perspective: Normality is determined by personality traits, personal discomfort, and the ability to function in life.
